    How Do I Start the Consignment Process with Nye & Company?

    We ask that If you are interested in consigning property for auction at Nye & Company, please submit photos and brief descriptions of the items you are interested in selling through the consignment inquiry form (link to request an estimate) or email them to [email protected].  Please limit the total image file size to below 20 MB.

    Are My Items Appropriate for Consignment?

    If your items are appropriate for one of our auctions, one of our team members will reach out and invite you to consign your items to our auctions. You will be provided with a consignment agreement which will outline selling commissions, fees a timeline for when the property would need to arrive at our galleries and potential sale dates for your pieces.

    Do the Items Need to be Shipped to Nye & Company?

    All items being sold through consignment for an auction need to be delivered to our gallery located at 20 Beach Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey 07003. We don’t have our own shipping trucks but are happy to Recommend Shippers that can deliver to our gallery. You are also welcome to arrange your own shipping or deliver them to us Monday through Friday 10 am – 4 pm (except on major holidays) or otherwise noted exceptions.

    How Often Are the Auctions?

    Nye & Company typically holds auctions roughly every 6-8 weeks. We have a couple of different levels of auctions which are primarily determined by item value and category. Most of our auctions are general auctions which have a variety of different selling categories included in each sale. However, we will sometimes hold category-specific auctions, such as a Jewelry and Watches auction, a Fine Art Auction or a Single-Owner sale. We hold both Live Online and Timed-Only Auctions.

    Where Are the Auctions Held?

    The auctions are held at our galleries located at 20 Beach Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey 07003 and we hold public exhibitions for approximately one to two weeks before each auction.  Attractive room settings are created – enhancing the appeal of each item. Our presence is hard to miss, as our 25,000-square-foot gallery is right on the Garden State Parkway, minutes from New York City and Newark International Liberty Airport.

    Where Are the Sales Posted?

    We typically hold our Live Online auctions on a variety of platforms including www.nyeandcompany.com, www.invaluable.com, www.liveauctioneers.com, www.bidsquare.com and www.bidspirit.com. Our timed auctions primarily are hosted on www.liveauctioneers.com.

    How Will I Know My Sales Results?

    You can follow the sales live and in real-time on our website: www.nyeandcompany.com, click on the Auctions Header at the top of the page go down to Upcoming Auctions, find the sale your items are in and click the VIEW SALE button. You will also be e-mailed preliminary auction results within 24-48 hours of the last session of the auction.

    Am I Entitled to The Buyer’s Premium?

    A Buyer’s Premium is a fee that successful bidders pay on top of the final bid price.  As a seller, you are not entitled to this fee. You will be paid the hammer price minus an applicable fees, commissions and charges.

    When Will I Be Paid?

    Sale proceeds are distributed 35 business days after the last session of the auction.

    What Happens to My Items That Fail to Sell?

    One of three things can happen; First, you can take the item back. Second, we can re-offer the piece in a subsequent sale with a new reduced estimate to make it more appealing for potential bidders. Third, occasionally clients will make a post-sale offer and we will relay that offer to you.

    Do You Have Outlets for Donating Items?

    Yes, we can assist with donating items.  In some cases, if the value exceeds a certain price point and you require a formal written appraisal for a charitable contribution, there may be some fees associated with creating the appraisal.

    Do You Sell Items Privately?

    Yes. Nye & Company has deep connections in the art world and when appropriate, we can sell items privately. This is done on a limited basis and items must have a certain price threshold and be well suited for a private transaction. We have a successful record of selling items privately and continue to expand this part of our business.
