John and Kathleen Nye

Established 2003

John and Kathleen Nye acquired Dawson’s after his long and fruitful Sotheby’s career. They began Dawson and Nye in 2003, and with the move to Bloomfield seven years later, renamed the business to Nye and Company. Though they maintain relationships all over the country, the bulk of business comes from the Trust and Estate community in the Tri-state area.

Knowing the competitive nature of the New York Metropolitan Area, Nye and Company strives to work closely with private clients and their representatives providing the most thorough and cost-effective auction service possible.

Perry Como

More than 1,500 lots were offered by Dawson’s Auctioneers and Appraisers (Now Nye and Company) at auction on June 2, 2002. Items included photographs, personal correspondence with his famous celebrity friends, clothing, artwork and furnishings from the Florida home he shared with his wife Roselle.

The Estate of Luther Vandross

Dawson & Nye (now Nye & Company) had the privilege to offer property from the Estate of the legendary singer and performer, Luther Vandross. The sale was held on December 5th and 6th, 2007 and included his gold and platinum records, books, artwork, rugs, LPs, furniture and jewelry. The sale was a tremendous success with fans, friends and colleagues coming out in droves to support the sale.

The Estate of Lorraine and John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie

Dawson & Nye (now Nye & Company) was delighted to offer a selection of property from the famous jazz trumpeter and his wife, Lorraine Willis. They lived in their Englewood, NJ home from 1965 until their deaths. On September 14, 2005, Dawson and Nye held an auction of their collection which included instruments, photographs, clothing, personal correspondence, artwork and furnishings from this legendary musician and his wife. The sale was a big hit with fans, musicians, friends and collectors.

Naomi Sims, Supermodel

The estate of Naomi Sims, considered by many to be the first African-American supermodel was auctioned by Nye & Company, Auctioneers and Appraisers on February 27, 2010. In addition to modeling, Sims founded a multimillion-dollar business providing wigs, hair care products and cosmetics for black women. Sims was married to noted art collector and dealer, Michael Findlay, from 1973 until their divorce in 1991, and was herself a collector of distinctive art forms and jewelry. Her collection of art, jewelry, collectibles and furnishings was auctioned to great fanfare.
