Two Similar Federal Mahogany Candlestands
New Jersey, c. 1800-10.

A dense mahogany candlestand with a turned pedestal that features a ringed column turning over an urn and reel with three feet. The top has two boards connected splined together that separated over the years. On the back is written, "Old Candle Stick and table which belonged to Rebecca C. Conover, Great Grandmother of Kenneth Rodney Baird. Table is in possession of Rodney Baird given to him by his Mother Marion Baird." Stamped on the back of the photo is "Mrs. L. H. Conover, Marlboro, N. J."

Provenance: The candlestand was given to their son William I. Conover then to his daughter, Marion Conover Baird, then to her son, Rodney "Boots" Baird, then to his widow, Genevieve Baird of Point Pleasant, NJ and then bought by Joseph Hammond, Freehold, New Jersey.
