Description:

Solon Francis Montecello Badger (American, 1873-1919) Oil on Canvas, signed l.l. "SFM Badger '93". The Jubilee was original built as a single master competitor for the America's Cup, by General Charles J. Paine, for the defense of the 2nd Dunraven Challenge, steel hull, lightest and most technologically advanced boat of its time. Charles Paine was actively involved in the America's Club and the New York Yacht Club. It was sold shortly after and the second mast was added. Listed as a two masted cutter in Lloyd's registry by 1910, and was acquired by Louis K. Thurlow, who was an avid sailor.
Restoration work done December 1981 for Mrs. Fearn Thurlow, Curator of Newark Museum. Losses to frame, varnish discolored, some craquelure.
