Description:

With seed and pony beads, body and fringe buffalo hide. Based on its unusual length and shape, it appears it may likely have been used to carry an American half stock percussion rifle with a 36 inch barrel made between 1840 and 1870. Possibly for a large .50 to .80 caliber round, the type of rifle sometimes used for hunting buffalo. Length of scabbard: 50"l, length of longest fringe: 43"l Provenance: Property of Major General Charles Francis Roe (1848-1922). Descended through the family to the great-grandson.

  • Condition: Some losses to trade cloth, seed and pony beeds.
