American, 19th
View of General John Mason's Residence on Analostan Island
Watercolor
John Mason was George Mason IV 8th child/fifth son (b. 1766-1849). John accompanied his father to the Philadelphia convention.

He built the summer home on Analostan Island which was originally acquired by George Mason III in 1724, passed to George IV in 1735 and inherited by John at his death in 1792. The home was built in 1790s and several prominent visitors came to the home such as Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe to name a few.

The image is quite rare and the Library of Congress has a 19th century picture in their collection of a different view of the house.
