Note of provenance is affixed in the drawer: "This dressing table belongs to George H. C. Arrowsmith, left him by his aunt, Jane Cook". states January 30, 1947 as the date of the gift to Mr. Arrowsmith. A note affixed to the back states that It belonged to the Wilkinson family of Rhode Island, her ancestors. Jane Cook (? 1868-1947 ?), Providence, RI . was a descendant of Lawrence Wilkinson born in Lanchester, County of Durham, England, a son of William Wilkinson by his wife Mary, sister of Sir John Conyers, Bart., and the grandson of Lawrence Wilkinson, of Harpley House, Durham.
